Amanda Thompson - A Soul Who Touched So Many

If you had ever met Amanda Thompson, you knew instantly how kind and giving she was. Always first to volunteer, Amanda dove into anything she did all the way – which was why people always loved her. That’s also why, when she was diagnosed with CIC-DUX4 Sarcoma in early December 2022, people from all over asked how they could help her. Helping was something Amanda was great at doing, but like many, bad at asking. So after much prodding from friends and neighbors, this page was set up so she could communicate her needs, receive all of the love that people want to send, and update everyone on how her fight was going.

Unfortunately, her fight against CIC-DUX4 Sarcoma ended on Mother’s Day, May 14th, 2023. She fought hard, but this cancer spreads so fast. She left behind a legacy more than what she would have ever expected, as her main goal in life was to raise to normal, happy and beautiful children.

Round 3 Update: Fun in the Sun!

The kids have a mini break from school this weekend, and so on Thursday Amanda and the kids went to the beach. Along the way they stopped at the Saint Helena Parish Chapel of Ease Ruins so they could take a long “Flat Ellie,” which is a fun project that schools do based upon the Flat Stanley book series. In

Got out early, manageable effects

I apologize about the delay in this message, but it’s been a rush since getting back from the hospital. Our mantra recently has been “Not as long, not as bad, kill the cancer, and never come back.” Well the mantra worked as she finished her chemo an hour earlier than expected. We were able to break out of the hospital

The Word of this Round is…

A quick update – a huge relief it has been for us so far…but so far with this round the word is “manageable.” Amanda has been up and about several times today. Nausea is still a concern, but manageable. Pain, again manageable. Tiredness very present….but – you guessed it – manageable. Keep your prayers up that this continues into tomorrow.

Starting Chemo, Again…

Amanda is starting her 3rd round of chemo today. It’s the not fun kind… the red devil. Her last dance with it was not fun, and so she’s naturally very anxious. Keep her in your thoughts during this time and hope that the chemo heals her as it tears her apart. Here’s a post from her Facebook page yesterday: I

Healing, and Gratitude

Here’s a post from Amanda’s Facebook account where she shared some thoughts on healing and gratitude: I am trying to give myself grace to rest and heal. While I think this round was “easier” on my system, I am still incredibly weak and fatigued. That’s challenging for somebody who always has something she wants to do. Ha! I am healing

Almost done with round 2!

Time flies when you’re fighting sleep depravation and have home sickness! Amanda checked in to the hospital on Thursday, and should get out Tuesday morning. Her vitals and test results are all good, save her liver levels being slightly high. The docs are not too concerned about it right now. Overall, this time has been much better than the last

Gearing up for another round

So the past couple of weeks have had moments of normalcy in the Thompson household. School is back. With that comes getting the kids ready for school, making lunches, evening meals, and many of the elements that we have been used to doing here. It’s been nice. In between those moments, Amanda has been spending a number of her days

New Alt Doc, New Hope

(Quick note: for a full description on Dr. Hickey’s explanation of the cause of cancers and how to treat it, see the section below named “Dr. Hickey’s Convo”) On Tuesday, Amanda and I walked out of the offices of Dr. Hickey – an alternative cancer treatment doctor recommended by a friend who has had some troubles, as well – with

Recovering…

Amanda felt great coming home and the first day back from the hospital. The next day, she felt like a train had hit her – nausea and fatigue was persistent. Now a few days on, she’s feel more human, especially after putting on eye liner for the first time in over a week. Though she’s still very tired, she gets
