Rocky start, but finding humor

So yesterday was day 1 of chemo. It was a bumpy ride to say the least. Delays in the beginning, no food or water from the night before until about 2 pm, feeling very drugged from the sedation to install a port all meant that Amanda was feeling very sick. This photo of her was taken for Maggie (she gave Amanda the bear during her stay) and right she was sick. Poor girl.

We had some inadvertent funny moments, which helped lighten the day. After waiting 30 mins for a shuttle that never came, we hopped on a golf cart in downtown Charleston traffic. That was interesting. Then on another transfer we had think the hospital cop who picked us up was a former NYC taxi driver. At one point we got to about 50 on a city street crammed with cars, him muttering about cars in front of him, all the while not acknowledging our presence. We burst out laughing after getting out of the car.

She did start chemo at about 9pm last night, so we’re hoping we are finished by Sunday morning/afternoon so we can get home. She really didn’t get a bit of sleep as they kept checking her vitals about every hour. I have a “convertible couch” that’s made for someone 5’4” to sleep on, but managed to get sleep.

Thanks to everyone who is wishing her well. I’ll try to get a picture once Amanda is feeling better.
